Surrounded by gardens and vineyards, Messaria will impress you with its outstanding architecture, a striking
blend of the aristocratic with the traditional: as you stroll along its narrow
alleyways, you’ll admire old neoclassical mansions standing next to small white
houses in the characteristic Cycladic style.
The village’s numerous taverns offer a variety of authentic Greek dishes
and lively entertainment in their colorful atmosphere, while wine-tasting in
Messaria is, more than anywhere else in Santorini, an exquisite experience,
since the area is responsible for the island’s biggest wine production.
Don’t miss a visit to the
churches of Metamorphosis of Sotirosand Agia Irini, both dating from the
late 17th century. And, although there
are frequent bus connections and taxi services, it’s worth taking a long walk
back from Fira under the moonlight,
provided you are romantic and fit enough.
Other paths, passing right outside the Markezinis Suites entrance, are ideal for hiking around the peaceful
area.
